About Us

MISSION STATEMENT
HSPVA FRIENDS is a private,
nonprofit organization supporting the needs of talented young Houston artists
and special projects at the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts.
OVERVIEW
HSPVA FRIENDS began in 1979
as a private, nonprofit support organization giving college scholarships and
summer arts workshop experiences for students at HSPVA. In 1997, the
organization expanded its mission to address a myriad of needs of students and
projects at Houston's respected school for the arts, including guest artists,
supplies, specialized equipment, arts publications, master classes by
professional artists, workshops, the Awards Night at the Hobby Center, and the
school's participation in national art conferences and competitions.

HSPVA FRIENDS has a
thirteen-member Board of Trustees and an Advisory Board of approximately fifty
civic leaders representing Houston's major arts organizations, colleges and
universities, corporations, and well-known proponents of education and the arts
that have an impressive collective experience in nonprofit governance, fund
raising, and management of endowments. In recent years, HSPVA FRIENDS has
received almost $7 million in generous support from foundations, corporations,
and individuals for projects that encourage excellence in education and the
arts.
